Bulova

Bulova is an American watch company founded in New York City in 1875, when Joseph Bulova, an immigrant from Bohemia, opened a jewelry shop on Maiden Lane. In 1912 it opened a watch factory in Biel, Switzerland, for standardized mass production. It became the Bulova Watch Company in 1923, was part of the Loews Corporation from 1979, and was sold to Citizen at the end of 2007.

Bulova's best-known invention is the Accutron, first sold in October 1960, which used a 360 Hz tuning fork instead of a balance wheel. It followed the Hamilton Electric as the second electronic watch. A Bulova chronograph was carried on Apollo 15 in 1971, and Bulova aired the first television advertisement in 1941. In 2010 it introduced the Precisionist, a quartz watch with a 262,144 Hz crystal, eight times the usual frequency. Bulova makes watches, clocks and accessories.
