Longines
Longines is a Swiss watchmaker based in Saint-Imier. Auguste Agassiz founded it there in 1832, and his nephew Ernest Francillon later moved the firm toward factory production, opening its first factory in 1867 and producing its first in-house movement, the 20A, the same year. Its winged hourglass logo, registered in 1889, is the oldest unchanged active trademark registered with WIPO. Longines has been part of the Swatch Group and its predecessors since 1983.
Early technical work includes the 20H mono-pusher chronograph movement of 1878 and the 1925 Zulu Time, a dual-time-zone wristwatch made for the Royal Canadian Navy. It also produced the Weems navigation watch for aviators. In the 1990s the Swatch Group positioned Longines below Omega, focusing on classic, elegant designs that draw on the brand's history.
