Tudor
Tudor (Montres Tudor SA) is a Swiss watchmaker based in Geneva and the sister company of Rolex; both are owned by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation. The Tudor trademark was registered in 1926 on behalf of Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf, who set up Montres Tudor SA in 1946. Its stated purpose was to offer a more affordable watch than Rolex, originally by fitting third-party movements into Rolex-made Oyster cases and bracelets.
From the 1960s to the 1980s, Tudor Submariners were issued to navy divers, including the French Marine Nationale and the US Navy. The Black Bay, a reinterpretation of early Tudor Submariners, launched in 2012, and the North Flag of 2015 was the first Tudor with an in-house movement (calibre MT5621). Tudor introduced manufacture movements across its sports watches in 2016 and 2017 and has since broadened the Black Bay dive line.
