Zenith
Zenith is a Swiss watchmaker founded by Georges Favre-Jacot in Le Locle, in the canton of Neuchâtel, in 1865. After passing through several owners, including Zenith Radio Company and Dixi, it was bought by LVMH in November 1999 and sits in the group's watch division alongside TAG Heuer and Hublot.
Zenith's best-known product is the El Primero, unveiled on 10 January 1969 as the first high-frequency automatic chronograph movement. The movement has appeared in more than 70 versions, and Rolex used it in the Daytona from 1988 to 2000. An earlier calibre, the 135-O, won five Neuchâtel Observatory prizes between 1950 and 1954. Today Zenith makes luxury mechanical watches, and the El Primero is still used in its chronographs, including models in the Defy collection.
