Grand Seiko
Grand Seiko is a Japanese watch brand owned by Seiko Watch Corporation, part of Seiko Group Corporation. It began in 1960 as Seiko's highest-grade domestic line and became a separate brand in 2017, when the Seiko name was removed from new dials. Mechanical watches are made at the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi in Iwate Prefecture; quartz and Spring Drive watches are made by Seiko Epson in Shiojiri, Nagano Prefecture.
The brand's design language traces to the angular 44GS case of 1967. It makes three kinds of movements in Japan: mechanical (9S), quartz (9F) and Spring Drive (9R), a mechanical movement regulated electronically. Grand Seiko won the Men's Watch Prize at the GPHG in 2021 and the Chronometry Prize in 2022. Seiko has positioned it as a higher-priced brand competing directly with Swiss luxury groups, and it has been sold internationally since 2010.
