Watch Almanac

Timex

Timex is an American watch company headquartered in Middlebury, Connecticut. It began in 1854 as the Waterbury Clock Company in Waterbury, Connecticut, and became known for applying mass-production methods to make affordable clocks and watches. It is now Timex Group USA, owned by the holding company Timex Group B.V. since 2008.

Its history includes the Ingersoll dollar pocket watch of 1896 and, from 1933, Mickey Mouse watches made under license from Disney. Timex was an early maker of LED and LCD digital watches and introduced the Indiglo backlight. The Ironman Triathlon watch of 1986, named for the race Timex sponsored, became its most successful watch of the post-mechanical era, and the Expedition outdoor line followed in 1997. Many of its watches are made by TMX Philippines in Lapu-Lapu.
