Sinn
Sinn is a German maker of mechanical and quartz watches based in Frankfurt am Main. It was founded in 1961 as Helmut Sinn Spezialuhren by Helmut Sinn, a flight instructor and former Luftwaffe pilot, and first sold navigation cockpit clocks and pilot's chronographs directly to customers. Lothar Schmidt bought the company in 1994.
Mission timers (Einsatzzeitmesser) for professional users, including police special units, firefighters, divers and pilots, are an important part of its range. In 1985 astronaut Reinhard Furrer wore a Sinn 140 S automatic chronograph on the Spacelab D1 mission. Typical Sinn specifications include water resistance of 20 bar or more and magnetic resistance to the DIN 8309 standard, and its U-series dive watches use German submarine steel. Core models include the 103 pilot's chronograph and the 140 space chronograph, and the 900 Pilot won a Goldene Unruh award in 2010.
