Rado
Rado is a Swiss watchmaker headquartered in Lengnau, in the Canton of Bern. It began in 1917 as Schlup & Co., a movement maker founded by the brothers Fritz, Ernst and Werner Schlup. The Rado name was registered in 1928, the company began selling watches under it in 1954 and adopted it as the company name in 1957. Rado joined ASUAG in 1968 and is now part of the Swatch Group.
Rado is known for scratch-resistant materials. The DiaStar of 1962 combined a tungsten-carbide hardmetal case with a sapphire crystal and was marketed as the first "scratchproof" watch. The Integral of 1986 added ceramic components, and the brand is now closely associated with hardmetal, sapphire and advanced ceramics. The Captain Cook dive watch, first made in small numbers in 1962, was later revived and is part of the current collection.
