Oris
Oris is a Swiss maker of mechanical watches based in Hölstein, in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. Paul Cattin and Georges Christian founded it there in 1904, naming it after a nearby brook. Oris became part of ASUAG, a predecessor of the Swatch Group, in 1970, and regained its independence through a management buyout in 1982. It then dropped quartz and chose to make mechanical watches in the mid-price segment.
Oris introduced its Big Crown pilot's watch in 1938 and its first diver in 1965; the Divers Sixty-Five collection, launched in 2015, recreates that diver. Its flagship line is the Aquis dive watch, offered with the in-house Calibre 400 and a tool-free strap-change system. In 2014 Oris released Calibre 110, its first in-house-developed movement in 35 years, a hand-wound calibre with a 10-day power reserve.
