Orient
Orient is a Japanese watch brand owned and operated by Seiko Epson. Its origins go back to 1901, when Shogoro Yoshida opened a watch wholesale shop in Ueno, Tokyo, and Orient Watch Co., Ltd. was established as an independent watchmaker in 1950. It became an Epson subsidiary in 2009, and its watch business was fully merged into Epson in 2017. Although Epson also makes watches for Seiko, Orient is marketed separately and not by Seiko Watch Corporation.
Orient has mainly made mechanical watches, both automatic and hand-wound, along with some quartz, solar and radio-controlled models. Movements are made in-house by Akita Epson in Yuzawa, Akita Prefecture, and most watches are manufactured in Japan, though some lower- and mid-range models are made at Epson subsidiaries in Thailand and China. The higher-end line is sold as Orient Star.
