Nomos Glashütte

Nomos Glashütte is a German watchmaker based in Glashütte, Saxony. Roland Schwertner, an IT specialist and photographer from Düsseldorf, founded it in January 1990, two months after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the first watches appeared in 1992. Designer Susanne Günther drew the first collection with Bauhaus influences, and the brand is known for clean, modernist dials. Annual production is about 20,000 watches.

Nomos first used Swiss ETA/Peseux 7001 movements but has used only in-house movements since April 2005, when it also introduced its first automatic, the Tangomat. In 2014 it unveiled its own escapement, the Nomos swing system, which made it independent of Swiss suppliers for that part. The original 1992 models, Tangente, Orion, Ludwig and Tetra, are still made alongside later lines such as Club and Metro. Many models come in several sizes; the Tangente, for example, is offered in 33, 35, 38, 39 and 41 mm.
