Mido
Mido is a Swiss watch brand founded by Georges Schaeren in Biel/Bienne in 1918. The name comes from the Spanish yo mido, "I measure." Mido joined ASUAG through the General Watch Co. in 1971 and is now part of the Swatch Group, headquartered in Le Locle.
In 1934 Mido launched the Multifort, its first self-winding model, which was also shock-resistant, antimagnetic and water-resistant. The Commander, with a one-piece case, followed in 1959, and in 1970 Mido introduced its Aquadura crown seal, which uses natural cork to keep water out at the crown. Mido is one of the larger producers of COSC-certified chronometers: it made 61,358 automatic movements in 2013, ranking fourth in Swiss chronometer production. Its main markets are Latin America and Asia.
