IWC

IWC Schaffhausen (International Watch Co.) is a Swiss watchmaker based in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. It was founded in 1868 by Florentine Ariosto Jones, an American watchmaker from Boston who planned to make watches in Switzerland for the US market. After a bankruptcy it passed to the Rauschenbach family in 1880, and it has been part of the Richemont Group since 2000.

IWC is best known for pilot's watches, a line that includes the 1940 Big Pilot's Watch, reissued in 2002. Its other long-running collection is the Portugieser, introduced in 1939. The company was an early user of titanium and ceramic in watch cases, and its Ingenieur Ref. 1832 was designed by Gérald Genta. The Portugieser Eternal Calendar won the top prize at the 2024 GPHG. Today IWC makes luxury mechanical watches, with pilot's watches and chronographs as its best-known categories.
